After researching for a steering stabilizer I came across this one. Compared to others this had a good price and a good review. I decided to go ahead and order it. Today I installed it on my jk and took it for a drive. I must say it's like driving a new keep again. The only issue I have with it so far is that the instructions are a bit confusing and if you are not mechanically inclined it can be a little challenging.
This is a pic of all the parts you will get with your new Rancho steering stabilizer. Using a pair of needle nose pliers, remove the cotter pin going through the. Another popular steering stabilizer is the Skyjacker Hydro 7000 Steering Stabilizer. Custom-crafted for your truck or SUV, this steering stabilizer dampens the harshness of both on- and off-road driving with performance shocks for your steering system.
I would like to see if skyjacker could make better instructions and better pictures of it, if it was not for that I would give it 5 stars! This stabilizer works amazingly well especially over the stabilizer that comes stock. Adjusting this stabilizer is very easy as the knob is located on the end of the shaft. A quick turn of the knob will take you from a looser stock feel to a very firm feel with the hardest setting.
I've found the medium setting to be optimal with the 35' Toyo tires that I am currently running. This stabilizer cured a lot of wander I experienced at highway speeds. Add to this it is a pretty amazing looking piece of equipment! Very easy to install on my 2012 Wrangler Sport 2 Door. Took a break from installing my leveling kit & shocks to mess with this, and had it installed within 10 minutes. I looks great under the Jeep, especially with the factory plastic air dam removed and the added 2 inch height from the leveling kit.
I give it four stars only because I feel no noticeable difference when driving with the stock 225/75/16 tires, which I had on roughly a week, before putting 285/75/16 tires with aftermarket wheels. Still feels like no discernible changes have been made with how the Jeep handles, but it does looks pretty cool. Excellent product. This was installed easily on my 2000 Ford F-350 Super Duty CC SWB 4x4. The item replaced an older Explorer unit which had started leaking after 10+ years. Comparing the two side by side, the Bilstein unit appears better made. Removal of the mounting bolts for the old stabilizer was the only challenging part of the installation.
The fasteners eventually yielded to some PB Blaster and an impact wrench. The new stabilizer went on smoothly. I used the stock Ford mounting point on the track bar.
I did not have to adjust the location of it from my prior It has definitely tightened up the sloppy steering on the Ford. I would highly recommend.
